Yer çekimi etkisi ve bileğin hareketinin sebep olduğu hataları ortadan kaldırarak doğruluğu garanti eden bir türbin sistemini temsil eden bu saat, türbini ve çark kontrolü ters çevirerek insanın kayda değer sistemi ve özel oymayı, alışılmış olan ön kısım yerine arkadan görülebilmesi sağlandı.

Two years before the launch of El Primero, Zenith introduced its Defy wristwatch line via its 1967 catalog. “These models had something revolutionary [about them],†recalls Joel Duval, author of “Zenith: The Story of a Watch Manufacture Under a Guiding Star.†Naturally, as of 1969 it was powered by the El Primero movement.
The latest example in this long line is the Defy El Primero 21, a futuristic mechanical chronograph able to display precise times down to 1/100th of a second in an analog manner. “For me, you respect tradition only if you create new things,†says Tornare. “Because if you only repeat what has always been done, do you really respect the past?â€
Zenith’s Defy line finds its origins in the sporty, contemporary wristwatches of the late 1960s. Indeed, the latest incarnation doesn’t repeat the past, but rather lightly alludes to it, taking design to the cutting edge of technology with its composition of groundbreaking technology, quasifuturistic layout and use of forward-looking materials such as Aeronith. “The idea was to have world premieres inside and outside,†says Romain Marietta, Zenith’s head of products. “The new Defy Inventor’s bezel material, Aeronith, is the lightest aluminum alloy on the market, with a very special look that catches the eye. This is the recipe for success.â€
Just because a company is 154 years old, it doesn’t necessarily need to show its age: the Defy line connects Zenith’s past with its future in a functional yet forward-thinking way. This can be seen in the Defy Classic, with automatic winding that displays the time and date packaged in a way you wouldn’t have seen before.
In the mid-1970s, watchmaking at large followed the then-new technology trend toward battery-operated quartz timekeeping, causing most makers to abandon conventional mechanical technology. Thanks to the foresighted watchmaker Charles Vermot, who cautiously hid away the tools and blueprints needed to continue making the El Primero movement, Zenith’s current watchmakers remain inspired by the dedication to their craft, now creating uniquely complicated timepieces such as the Defy Zero G, Defy Double Tourbillon and Defy El Primero Fusée Tourbillon.
